Books & Writing
My books reflect my varied interests. Put simply, they are either about nature or culture. Every book I have written is a way to understand a glimmering piece of the world that I have felt compelled to explore. I have written books on street art and visual culture in India, collaborated with a range of artists on children’s picture books, and created a series of contemporary retellings of ancient Greek plays for the J. Paul Getty Museum. My books have been translated into twenty languages around the world, and have received a number of international awards.
Nothing gives me more pleasure than to know my books are read and enjoyed by students. My children’s books are in school libraries around the world. My books on visual culture are recommended reading for students at Yale University’s Centre for the Study of Material and Visual Cultures of Religion, and required reading for a Postgraduate Studies course on the Politics of Imagining South Asia at SOAS, among others.
