Guest Curator: Vancouver Art Gallery
I have been associated with the Vancouver Art Gallery, one of North America’s most respected and innovative visual arts institutions, as a guest curator, respondent, advisor and speaker since 2015. I have been a guest curator of their signature event FUSE, which transforms the gallery into an after-hours art party. I have co-led Curator's tours, designed all-day programs in conjunction with exhibitions, and conceptualized site-specific engagement activities. After years of collaboration as an external partner, I joined the gallery’s leadership team in 2023 as Director of Public Engagement and Learning.
FUSE: Public Lives/Private Dreams
In the summer of 2016, I was invited to be the guest curator of FUSE, an after-hours event that transforms the Vancouver Art Gallery into THE place for art, music and live performance in the city.
In response to the concerns of the exhibitions at the gallery, I proposed the theme of PRIVATE LIVES/PUBLIC DREAMS, exploring the relationships between the personal, the political, the fantastic and the mythical. There were live performances in the Gallery spaces, multiple DJs across several floors, brass bands on the front steps, projections onto the gallery’s rotunda and the walls of neighbouring buildings, and unexpected surprises in every space.
